The New Vibe Yoga 200 hour Ashtanga Yoga Training Program is designed for people who are interested in expanding and deepening their understanding of ashtanga yoga, not just as a physical practice, but also as a life path -- a way of engaging with ourselves and our communities, inquiring into who we truly are, and recognizing and letting go of the barriers that are preventing us from being our truest, most authentic selves.

The Training also provides a solid foundation for understanding the correct alignment, energetics, and therapeutic benefits of specific asanas in the ashtanga primary and intermediate series, as well as how to lead a group of students of varying levels safely through a beginner and open level New Vibe Yoga Led Ashtanga Class.

If you are a serious yoga student interested in deepening your understanding of Ashtanga Yoga and learning the fundamentals of teaching led ashtanga style yoga classes, we invite you to join us for our Winter 2020 New Vibe Yoga training. The program is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance RYS training.**

The program will be limited to twelve participants and decisions will be made on a rolling basis, so if you are interested, we recommend applying as early as possible.

The Winter 2020 Teacher Training will be held from 8:30am- 5:30pm
on weekends.

During the training, participants are expected to maintain a regular practice of Mysore and led classes at least 2-3 times per week at New Vibe Yoga (if this is not possible for you, we can discuss alternatives.) Participants are also expected to observe at least five New Vibe Yoga led classes, ideally a mix of beginner and open level.

Participants will be asked to keep a journal throughout the training, complete all required reading when assigned, complete a practice and final written test, do practice teaching of the kriya and meditation class and led asana class, and complete a final evaluation and self-reflection. Participants are also strongly encouraged to adopt a yogic and Ayurvedic lifestyle throughout the training.

**Attendance to all weekends included in the training is mandatory in order to receive a completion certificate. Any missed lectures can be made up in the next training (dates TBD). After completing any missed lectures or sections you can request a completion certificate. Upon completion of the program and, all program requirements, you will receive a certificate indicating your completion of a Yoga Alliance RYS 200 Hour Training, which can be used to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher - RYT200.

The typical daily schedule is:

8:30am - 9:15am: Kriya practice and meditation

9:15am - 9:45am: Sutra chanting

10:00am - 11:45am Asana class and discussion

11:45am - 1:00pm Lunch

1:00pm - 3:30pm Lecture and discussion

3:30pm - 5:30pm Practice teaching

The mornings begin with chanting the teacher/student mantra, followed by kriya (purification) practice as taught by Baba Hari Dass and seated meditation. Then we chant the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, working our way slowly though the first book, Samadhi Pada. Then we will take a led asana class (alternating between led primary and led open level), followed by a discussion about the class. After lunch, there will be a lecture and discussion on one of the topics listed below. At the end of the day, participants will practice teaching, focusing on verbal cues, pacing, voice, hands-on adjustments, and modifications for students with particular needs. We close each day by chanting the ashtanga yoga closing mantra.

· Introduction to ashtanga yoga philosophy
· Yoga lifestyle: yamas and niyamas
· History of ashtanga and elements of a traditional Mysore practice
· Introduction to Ayurveda
· Dinacharya: Ayurvedic daily routine
· Physical anatomy
· Anatomy of the subtle body
· Yogic diet
· Asana practice during menstruation, pregnancy, and postpartum healing
· Introduction to Sanskrit chanting and harmonium playing
· Introduction to teaching: pacing, voice, verbal cues

The topics related to the teaching of yoga asanas
covered in the training will include:

· Correct alignment
· Energetics of the postures
· Tristana (breath/bandhas, gaze, posture)
· Vinyasa krama (conscious ordering of asana in the ashtanga tradition)
· Asana asists
· Modifications for injuries
· Modifications for pregnancy and postpartum
· Working with props

About New Vibe Yoga:

At New Vibe Yoga, we understand ashtanga yoga- an eight-limbed path that helps us still the fluctuations of the mind- as a therapeutic and healing practice, and means of cultivating tranquility and joy in our daily lives. We take a non-dogmatic approach to the practice and teaching of ashtanga yoga, offering ancient teachings in a modern context. We offer both Mysore and led classes.

Our open-level led classes are a set sequence that includes sun salutations, a simplified half-primary series, several postures from the second half of the primary series, a few intermediate series back-bends, and finishing postures. We also offer beginner-level classes, which are sun salutations, the standing series, and finishing postures. Our advanced level led class is the full Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

 Teachers:

The primary teacher of the teacher training program will be Alex Schatzberg, founder and director of New Vibe Yoga. Alex has been teaching and practicing yoga in New York City for over a decade. In 2014 he opened New Vibe Yoga in the East Village to provide the community with a home for an authentic and therapeutic approach to yoga. Inspired by the accessibility and modernity of practices like Jivamukti Yoga, the intense focus and energetic purity of Ashtanga Yoga, and the celebratory aspects of everyday life found in Bhakti Yoga, Alex has created New Vibe Yoga - a studio for a Joyful approach to Ashtanga. Alex has had the pleasure to study closely and train with some of the world's finest yoga teachers, including Christine Hoar, David Williams, Guy Donahaye, Ruth Lauer-Manenti, Rima Rabbath, Isaac Peña, Greg Gumucio, and Ragunath Cappo and has attended special workshops and classes with countless others including Nancey Gilgoff, Maty Ezraty, Sharath Jois, David Life, Sharon Gannon & Hanne Sydanmaa. He is known for his skillful eye, healing touch, precise adjustments, and humor. Alex has taught at many primiere yoga centers throughout New York City including YogaWorks, Equinox, Ashtanga Yoga Shala NYC, Yoga Vida, Go Yoga Brooklyn, Exhale Spa, Yoga to the People as well as working with private clients and operating and owning his own yoga studio since 2014, New Vibe Yoga. Alex is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT200, and has over 20,000 hours of experience teaching both Mysore and Led Style classes. He practices the 1st, 2nd and 3rd series of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri k. Pattabhi Jois, and maintains a daily kriya, meditation and mantra practice. Modern society and city living inflict all kinds of mental and physical stress on our body and mind and it is Alex's intention to help people discover yogic tools to reduce stress and experience joy.

Alex will be assisted by his long-time student and fellow teacher at New Vibe Yoga, Maggie Russell-Ciardi along with Whitney Tucker who will lead the gross anatomy portion.

Cost of the Teacher Training Program:

$3000* includes unlimited Mysore and led classes at New Vibe Yoga for the duration of the training. Students will be responsible for the cost of required texts (approx. $200) which are available for purchase in studio.

*New Vibe Yoga Autopay-Members take an additional $600 off the cost of Training when you continue your autopay throughout the program! Total Cost: $2400.

No refunds within 15 days before the program begins.

How To Apply:

Pre-requisites: Students should have an established yoga practice in Ashtanga or Vinyasa style.

The application should be accompanied by the program fee, which can be paid online at the bottom of this page. Applications will not be reviewed until the accompanied fee has been received. Should the applicant not get accepted to the program, the fee will be refunded within 10 business days less a $35 processing fee.
